Support and Services
We provide access to support for research, study, learning, referencing, interloans (interlibrary loans), distance students, wellbeing, equity, international students, Māori and Pasifika students and staff.
Is there an item that NMIT Library doesn't currently hold that you would like to see added to our collection?
Please make a book purchase request via our online form(external link).
If you would like to talk to an Acquisitions Librarian, drop by and see us, or phone 539-5068.
We consider all requests and will let you know whether your request qualifies for addition to our collection.
What are Distance services?
The library sends books to you by courier if required.
Do I qualify?
Students who live 50 km or more from an NMIT campus and all online students (even if they live within the 50 km radius of campuses) are eligible. If so, sign up by completing the register for distance form(external link).
If you live less than 50 km from campus but wish to be considered for this service, please contact the Library Resources Manager on (03) 539 5068 or email library@nmit.ac.nz.
If you are studying with us from outside New Zealand, we unfortunately can’t send books overseas. However, we can give advice and help you access our online resources.
How does it work?
To find out more, including how to make a request and what other resources are available online, view Services for Distance Students(external link) or contact the library(external link).
Interloan guidelines
- We do not interloan titles that are part of our own collection. The service is restricted to material related to your course of study or area of research.
- Interloan requests for books may take up to two weeks to arrive, although one week is the average waiting time. Journal articles usually arrive more quickly than books, sometimes in a day or two.
- For students, there is a limit of 3 requests per assignment.
- Interloans can be provided for personal interest but if costs are incurred, these will be passed to the borrower.
- The service is available to all staff and students of Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology.
To request an item not accessible via our library, please make an interloan request using our online form(external link).
Complete the form providing as much detail about the publication as possible.
It may be helpful to search the National Library's Catalogue(external link) or Amazon books(external link) to find details about a book you wish to interloan. Journal articles can also be interloaned where we don't have access to the full article via our research databases(external link). The staff at the Library are happy to help you with a search for material.
For more information on interloans see our policy or contact the Interloan Librarian.
Admission to the Library Learning Centre and to the use of its resources and services is conditional upon compliance with the regulations of the Library and directives given by the Library Resources Manager or delegated supervisors.

Emily @ Marlborough campus
Kia ora. My name is Emily and I am part of the Wellbeing, Library and Equity Team based on the Woodbourne and Blenheim NMIT campuses. I have started my journey with NMIT this year after significant time being a primary school teacher, and principal. My whanau home base is Whakatū, however I live in Waitohi/Picton. My biggest joy is to see others succeed. I can support you in many ways and help problem solve any tricky moments. I hope to be part of your learning journey leading to your graduation. Please come check out our whare pukapuka/ library and wellbeing centre in the Marlborough campus, Budge street. It is a great space to chill, develop wellbeing strategies, feed your mind and check out the lolly station. We are developing our Woodbourne campus ākonga/learner space. This is going to be exciting! I look forward to hearing your ideas either directly or in Have Your Say (haveyoursay@nmit.ac.nz).
Lets catch up and have a chat!
